You keep it pinned or bookmarked. Opening takes as long as any other page, the thread is where you left it, and typing behaves like a normal chat window rather than a stripped-down mobile view. Nothing buzzes at you during dinner, which some people miss and most people consider the point.

On a shared machine the rules are the ordinary ones: use a private window and the session leaves nothing behind, or use a normal window and clear it yourself. There is no background process running when the tab is closed, so the only trace is the one your browser keeps.
